It’s likely a 707 powered by Pratt & Whitney JT3C engines. These were commonly equipped with weird “Pod Pak” contraptions and these can be seen poking above the 356 .

At that time, Porsche took a good car, made it lower, lighter, better handling , faster a nd overall a better car, if not cheaper. (T hink of the 356 as an improved beetle)

Nowadays, Porsche would take a 356 and make it higher, heavier, slower and overall a worse car, certainly not cheaper either. (T hink of their SUVs as an worsened 911 or Panamera).

The scallops on the new engines work in the same way as the hush kit to reduce noise.
